Preorder the iPad on February 25th?

Appadvice, a resource for all things iPhone App related, is reporting that “according to a reliable source of ours familiar with the matter,” Apple will be accepting iPad preorders on February 25th.  That’s this coming Thursday.

Mashable maintains that it is safest to consider this news as rumor rather than fact, but has arguments for the veracity of Appadvice’s claim.

For one thing, Apple has done pre-orders in the past, and a pre-order period beginning next month would gel nicely with the time-frame for iPad sales as laid out by Steve Jobs. From Mashable:

Although Steve Jobs said that the Wi-Fi units would start shipping about 60 days after the announcement (putting us at the end of March) with the 3G models to follow a month later, no official release date has been announced and thus far, potential customers have been asked to fill out a “notify me” form at Apple’s website for more information.

February 25 would be about a month ahead of the projected release date, which would give Apple more time to rev up its production to meet pre-order demand and stock stores.
