Analyst: The Next iPhone Will Be Called the iPhone 4S, Not 5

While Apple will be releasing a new model iPhone this year, contrary to some previous rumors, it will be evolutionary rather than revolutionary in the changes it brings, and it will be billed as the iPhone 4S and not as the iPhone 5, according to Jeffries & Co. analyst Peter Misek.

In a note to investors, Misek writes, “According to our industry checks, the device should be called iPhone 4S and include minor cosmetic changes, better cameras, A5 dual-core processor, and HSPA+ support.” However, Misek shot down reports that the next iPhone model would boast LTE technology: The Qualcomm chipset Apple planned to use “is currently not achieving yields sufficient for inclusion in the iPhone 5.” Of interest, however, is Misek’s assertion that the iPhone 4S may be available for Sprint and T-Mobile right out of the gates.

It’s expected that the iPhone 4S will be unveiled by Apple in September rather than at June’s WWDC event.
