Mad Men Might Actually Be Firefly

Oops! Accidental reboot! This has been making its way through Tumblr, the earliest appearance on user jacquelineofalltrades’ stream. We’re unsure of the originator, but if we did know, we’d salute them here ——> ______. (Thanks, Pete!)

I wrote the text for this image on a wiki page (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SurprisinglySimilarStories) that’s meant to collect “some less obvious, and probably nonexistent connections, through wordplay, and selective examples of plot points.” It’s a couple years old.

I don’t know who turned it into an image. By taking it out of context, they kind of make it look like a criticism of the shows. It’s not meant to be; I love them both. I even call them “original” in the text. I just noticed that the pilots of the shows had a similar structure (probably because there’s a lot of overlap in their respective creative teams), and went hunting for other random similarities.

A lot of the descriptions of Mad Men have aged since I wrote this (I’m pretty sure Don’s now chased more women than there are characters in Firefly). Firefly, conveniently, has stayed trapped in amber.
