Watch Malware Get Embedded in Bone, Then Uploaded to a Computer in Bones

Television, specifically run-of-the-mill procedurals, has a reputation for either not getting anything right when it comes to computers, or at the very least, the scenarios in which computers are used to progress the episode’s plot are designed by people that actually know how computers work, but are trolls of the highest order. In this installment, we take a look at Bones, a show about Leonard McCoy’s life after the Enterprise – nah, actually it’s a show about solving crimes because of bones or something. In this episode, we see a character’s computer burst into flames because a malware fractal that was imprinted on bones shut the computer’s fans off when the bones were scanned into the computer, thus uploading the virus. It’s all very scientific. Watch the clip after the jump.

    RFID powerrrrRrrrrrr!

The random unlikeliness of the cases is just what makes Bones – dare I say – fun to watch :)

Seeing DS or PSP or Wii going down because sth was embedded inside jpg or mp3 doesn’t make Bones episode that ridiculous…

Yes, it’s like if you could make malware transportable trough a barcode or a QR code

A jpg or mp3 is still written code that can be altered before upload. Extra code stuffed in for a buffer overflow attack actually makes sense unlike the idea of a carved fractal somehow writing code despite the fact the parameters of the imaging software were not being manipulated or overwritten in any way. The idea is akin to having your copy machine blowing up because you copied a sheet of paper with a funny picture on it.

That’s like typing the code into notepad and watching the computer immediately burst into flames as soon as the last key is pressed.
