Barack Obama Buys Star Wars: a Pop-Up Guide to the Galaxy

Barack Obama – the same president who is a huge Spider-Man fancasually drops references to dilithium crystals, and may or may not have made an “All Your Base Are Belong to Us” reference — further fortified his geek cred yesterday, when he bought Matt Reinhart‘s Star Wars: a Pop-Up Guide to the Galaxy as a gift for his press secretary’s son.

Yahoo News:

After mentioning an Iowa City bookstore in his health care speech Thursday, President Barack Obama stuck his head in and spent $37 on kids’ books.

The president bought two books for his daughters, 11-year-old Malia and 8-year-old Sasha. He also paid for a “Star Wars” pop-up book for the 6-year-old son of White House press secretary Robert Gibbs.

Star Wars: a Pop-Up Guide to the Galaxy, isn’t just any Star Wars-themed pop-up book; it’s relatively new (published in 2007), and very much critically acclaimed. Even David Pogue likes it! From his review: “Calling this sophisticated piece of engineering a “pop-up book” is like calling the Great Wall of China a partition. Reinhart doesn’t fill pages from left to right like a normal author. He fills them upward and outward in three-dimensional space. He engineers enormous, elaborate tagboard sculptures with hundreds of parts that precisely interact as they rise from the book.”

This is almost like a Mediaite post, so let me make a Mediaite comment to this article:

More like “Socialist Wars: a Pop-Up Guide to Progressivism” LOL! And Hitler!
