Offbeatr is a Kickstarter for Porn

Not too long ago, we found out that the up-and-coming social network Pinterest had a couple porn clones, so it really is no surprise to learn that Kickstarter now has a porn clone, dubbed Offbeatr. Set up similarly to Kickstarter, Offbeatr allows content creators to raise money for adult projects, and provides fans with a way to find adult projects in which they may be interested enough to help fund.

Despite the name that makes me feel a little dirty to type every single time I have done it so far, Offbeatr isn’t just an amusing parody of Kickstarter, it is actually aiming to be a legitimate platform for the adult entertainment industry — and there’s nothing wrong with that, of course, as we’ve found out with Kickstarter, there are a multitude of neat projects that just can’t get off the ground without some exposure (har har) and funding. There’s no reason that shouldn’t apply to the adult entertainment industry.

Offbeatr functions similarly to Kickstarter, in that projects get their own project page, and if the pledge goal is made within the given timeframe, users will be charged what they pledged, but if the goal isn’t reached, then users will not be charged the money they pledged.

Offbeatr is brought to us by Extra Lunch Money (NSFW link), a kind of digital store for adult products. Extra Lunch Money CEO Ben Tao fully admits that Offbeatr isn’t an original idea, but that the Internet has a bunch of crowdfunding platforms, but not one of them are for the adult entertainment industry, which is why Offbeatr now exists. It remains to be seen if Offbeatr will take off, considering if there’s anything the Internet does well, it is free porn, and Offbeatr is asking people to give it money for potential porn that may exist in the future. Of course, the adult entertainment industry isn’t solely focused on porn, so maybe Offbeatr will take up the crowdfunding adult toys niche.

Currently, users need to request an invite to participate.
