What if the Gulf Oil Spill Never Happened? [Video]

Last year, 205 million gallons of oil were dumped into the Gulf of Mexico in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon disaster. In his info-tastic video Oil’dChris Harmon poses a provocative question: What would we have done with the oil if it had never been spilled? His answers are staggering, but also underline human dependency on oil. Sure, we could have done a lot with those 205 million gallons, but maybe we could have done even more — or less.

    Great video.

Really makes me wonder about the human capacity to not give a fuck mere seconds after being awed and disgusted.

Please take your own bags to the supermarket :)

That was the worst video I’ve ever watched. The guy laments the potential of what was lost and wasted in the oil spill… then he goes on to say that the very existence of oil makes humans the scourge of the earth. Then he ties it all up by telling us to join the ‘green’ cult whose inefficient practices are more for novelty than practicality considering they’re usually less environmentally friendly than the mainstream alternative.

Your reading of this video was needlessly negative and your conclusions were blerg; pig headed dependence on oil is what I saw as the ethos being questioned here.

The notion that we can’t do anything to help with “inefficient practices” is wrong, idiotic and sadly prevalent. Riding a bike is better for yourself and the world than driving a car, it really is as simple as that.

And yet, nobody is evil for preferring a car, especially when you have an hour commute by interstate.
