Off With Their Heads! The Olympics Had Croquet Once, But Never Again

The one and only croquet competition ever held in the Olympic Games took place during the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris. Apparently, only one man came to watch the games, so maybe they iced it because no one was paying to see it.

The one single croquet fan was an Englishman who had come all the way to Paris from Nice to watch the croquet competition. Which is kind of a big deal in 1900, so we know he’s kind of a fanboy.

I’m surprised no one wanted to watch the croquet competition, because croquet was actually quite popular during the time. Maybe it’s like we wouldn’t pay to watch the beer pong competition if the 2012 London Olympics had it. Actually, I take that back. The beer pong competition would totes sell out.

Maybe they’d have more spectators if they used flamingoes and hedgehogs and had the Queen shout everyone’s heads off.

Maybe you should research the 1900 Olympics a bit before trashing a sport you know nothing about.

Croquet “the thought sport”, if you had ever tried it you would know it requires skill and thought like snooker or other games that require use of angles, and it is becoming much more popular.
