Peanut Butter and Jelly Vodka Combines Nostalgic Childhood Lunches and Booze

Recommended Videos

Since the recent creation of NutLiquor (say it out loud), the world has been held in suspense for someone to take the next logical step and create a peanut butter and jelly flavored vodka. Finally, the wait is over as Van Gogh Vodka recently unveiled their latest flavor: PB&J. At long last, you can get that “mom packed my lunch” flavor from a bottle of booze.

Unfortunately, we haven’t had a chance to try PB&J vodka yet. However, Bar Business Magazine discusses the taste of the drink in their writeup on the unveiling, quoting Mastder Distiller Tim Vos, who worked to create this vodka, in the process:

While the fragrance is predominately of peanuts, it is complimented by the fresh fruit aroma of the raspberry. On the tongue, the roles are reversed and the raspberry flavor is more of the focal point, giving it a velvety texture with a hint of vanilla on the side. “It is challenging to transform a famous food flavor into a drink flavor, however I think this transition is beautiful and the flavor is intriguing—I am certain that everyone will want to enjoy more than one glass!”

Now it’s worth noting that Van Gogh unveiled the new flavor this past Monday, which was the day after April Fools’ Day. While this would seem to cast doubt over the legitimacy of PB&J vodka, the distillers posted a drink recipe featuring the flavored spirit to their Facebook page just hours ago.

NUTS & BERRIES

1-1/2 oz. Van Gogh PB&J Vodka

3/4 oz. Berry Liqueur

3/4 oz. Milk or Cream

Shake well with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a raspberry.

While I don’t necessarily have anything against flavored vodkas, I feel like this is a step too far. To me, the point of a flavored spirit is to give drink makers more flavors to draw from and construct new drinks. Peanut butter and Jelly is a distinctive flavor, but where could do you take it? Like Baileys, I can’t imagine this flavor playing nice with anything else you would care to mix with it.

That said, I’m keen to try it. I can’t resist the possibility of such a strange, and perhaps surprising, flavor.
