PETA Wants Mario to Get Rid of the Tanooki Suit Because It Is Fur

It looks like PETA is aiming their wrath cannon at video games once again, but instead of a relatively small developer like Team Meat, they’ve walked over the floating icon box, reloaded their cannon, and pressed the B trigger at Nintendo. PETA claims that when Mario puts on the Tanooki suit, rather than gaining the ability to turn into a statue, he gains the ability to support wearing fur. Like PETA did with Team Meat when they made Super Tofu Boy, they also made a game in response to the decades-old Tanooki suit, called Super Tanooki Skin 2D.

If one has been following PETA recently, one would pretty much know what to expect from Super Tanooki Skin 2D. The SEO of game’s home is simply titled “Mario Kills Tanooki,” so the game is obviously off to a great start.  The game features a skinned and bloody Tanooki chasing after a flying Mario, who is wearing the Tanooki suit, dripping with blood. That’s about it. The iconic Warp Pipes are also covered in blood, because PETA.

Nintendo made a statement to Eurogamer responding to PETA:

“Mario often takes the appearance of certain animals and objects in his games.

These have included a frog, a penguin, a balloon and even a metallic version of himself. These lighthearted and whimsical transformations give Mario different abilities and make his games fun to play.

The different forms that Mario takes make no statement beyond the games themselves.”

It sure is weird to say, but for once, Nintendo didn’t do anything wrong.

I’m sure PETA can say (beyond a shadow of a doubt) that the Tanooki suit is made of real fur and that Mario couldn’t have simply ordered a faux fur suit… because fur-like fabrics haven’t been around for decades or anything…

peta is stupid our caveman ancestors only survived because we skinned animals same thing as vegetarians the only reason we evolved is cause we started cooking our meat which in turn gave us smaller stomachs and bigger brains turning monkeys to humans, I would be thanking the lord for skinning and eating meat cause we wouldn’t be here without it, granted we are smarter now but people still believe in religion so I guess it is hard to let some things go

Lol. Bigger brains. You and PeTA both disproved that.

Sometimes I wish peta would do the world a favor  and f**k off .

Am I the only one who thinks that game looks really rad? I’d play the hell out of that.

Can the dweebs at PETA tell the difference between reality and animation?  Really, think about it.  They’re bent out of shape over fake characters.  GET A LIFE PETA!

  • Talesin BatBat

You really have to wonder just how out-of-touch with reality PeTArds have to be to get a bug up their butt about a tanuki suit, and ignore the whole stomping-on-turtles aspect.
Oh, right. Turtles aren’t fuzzy, and aren’t cute to a significant portion of their sheeple.

This is right up there with their MORONIC ‘kittens of the sea’ anti-fish ads. Just makes you want to beat them upside the head with a cluebat. Or just a bat. Of either variety.

Or they could just all be euthanized for making such petty accusations toward a well-loved video game. And then Mario could wear their skin as a power-up!

I hope Nintendo sues PETA for using Mario in a game without having the rights

So yeah even if super mario supported wearing fur, isn’t he in his right to do so? If we agree on the peta argument(which is laughable at best, but go along with me here) and say that Mario really is wearing a fur suit, made of fur isn’t it entirely up to the person to do as he or her please as long as it isn’t in violation with the law? As far as I know it is not illegal to weare fur, and it is not illegal to show that you like wearing fur and would like others to do so to. Just as it isn’t illegal to say that you shouldn’t wear fur or have the oppinion that it is wrong, just don’t force your appinion or beliefs onto others. And don’t make it look like people who isn’t in agreement with your ideals is criminals.

Not gonna lie, if mario actually got the suit from skinning an animal alive an not from a leaf. I’d buy the game in a heartbeat.

“Mario World 2: Mario gets serious”

He gets the suit by eating a damn leaf! How does that support wearing fur.

I find it hillarious that nobody’s pointed out yet that the Tanooki suits used in Mario are based on the MYTHICAL Tanuki creature, a Japanese mythical animal which could take the form of other things (hence why Mario changes into a statue). The RACOON suit would have been a more accurate target.

  • peta still sucks

Mario and Luigi are the ones who should sue Plonkers Enraged by Tanooki Animations into oblivion for this blashpemous sacreligious farce (first TWO Super Chick Sisters games and now Tanooki Kills Mario)!
