PlayStation Network Back Within Week, Sony Giving Free Downloads as Apology

The saga of the PlayStation Network outage will be coming to a close within a week, according to Sony. Having built new security measures into the network, Sony will begin a phased restoration of the network’s services, which includes online game-play, Qriocity services, account management and password reset, access to download un-expired movie rentals, PlayStation@Home, friends list and chat functionality. Along with restoring the default PSN functions as well as the added security features, Sony will be creating a new position within the company, Chief Information Security Officer, whose sole purpose is to monitor the safety of user data, as well as to supplement existing information security personnel.

With the service going live again, Sony will force a password change for each user in the form of a required system software update that will only allow users to update and change their password on the same PlayStation 3 console on which their account was activated. Also, like a certain blogger may have predicted, Sony will be offering a variety of free downloads and services based on region, in the form of the “Welcome Back Appreciation Program.” The program will provide free content downloads based on territory, all existing PSN customers will receive a free 30 day membership to the PlayStation Plus service, all PlayStation Plus members will receive a free 30 days of the service, and Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity subscribers will receive 30 days of free service as well.

So, it looks like we can put this business behind us soon enough. Hopefully PSN users didn’t experience any kind of credit card or identity issues from the hack, and hey, hopefully the free content Sony will be offering will be something worthwhile.

    SONY can jam their 30 day trials in their collective @$$es! I only want my data secure. How dare they say they’re “giving” us something! This is just a way for them to drum up more customers for their crappy pay services that I don’t have, don’t want and have no interest in what so ever. I hope everyone reads carefully and remembers to cancel the service after the 30 days or they will be charged for the following months automatically. I wonder if accepting this “good will” gesture will take away peoples legal right to become part of the class action suit.

    & they said everyone gets 30day free playstation plus

    if they say (example) the server be back on 05 may 2011 everyone will be happy and that is the big thing so that 7,000,000 players be grateful instead of as soon as possible and they make us wait for more than 14 days its hurts I now everyone agrees with me waiting is sucks every day when we open our eyes we pray that maybe today maybe today and its never end I do not now what to say more, I did email them but like i was talking to the wall

    if psn is still not on within the next 2, 3 weeks i will sell my ps3 without a doubt. The PS3 is holding on with dear life as it is because their only selling point is their PSN. Majority of PS3 games have alll been a let down and the PS3 games that are world wide sellers are usually only good online against the world on PSN.

    Take the PSN away and i actually haven’t used my ps3 for a long while, Yep sony thats right millions and millions of people will sell your product if this isn’t sorted out. Don’t believe me just go do some research on the internet , Go talk to some people about it and check forums. Millions of angry people and sony isn’t even saying jack shit about it so how do we even know if they are actually doing anything.

    Dude i totally agree with you, I actually never use my ps3 for Offline use. Only use Multiplayer PSN. Every game on the sony platform has been a let down based on it’s offline game. Without PSN Sony PS3 will without a doubt hit the floor like the twin towers. I already know around 40 people at uni who have sold there PS3 to CEX , Game station etc. People are fed up of waiting on Sony to fix this when they are hardly speaking out about when tPSN will be back. 2 Weeks has gone by now and still no Published date of when it will be back on. All i here off sony is IFF’s and BUT’s.

    Sort it out sony , Unlike Bobmarleymarley i am only gonna wait another 5 days if this is still down i will sell my PS3.

    Why?
    Because im not a little 14 year old geeky kid that hasn’t got a girlfriend or a job and all there day consists of is PS3 , i have both these things i have a great sex life and a great career. But when i come home every other night i will like Billions of people around the world switch on my ps3 and expect the product i paid good money for to be working.

    This clearly isnt the case , but luckily for me being on 49 grand a year i can afford to buy other consoles WHENEVER i like.

    And without a doubt this will be the case if PSN isnt back on in the next 3 – 5 days.

    I plan to buy a hammer from my local DIY store and on the count of three i will repeatably hit my PS3 or i will go to Gamestation and sell it to them mugs.

    While i agree with you mate i would also say just hold out for a bit longer, I completely agree with your points and your argument has a very strong leg to stand on because after all we the customer did pay good money for our Sony PlayStation and are we being treated right? are we given our money’s worth? No and No.

    I have also heard that while these fucking cunts (Hackers) were busy robbing 70 million of us blind and Sony just stood there like fucking Chinese people in a TSUNAMI. But a rumour has it that the same people that Hack’d your Sony were the same people that are working for Sony.

    And Sony a Multi Billion Pound company tells us that they had no idea it was happening until later on. Sounds to me like Insiders plotted to steal 1 penny from 70 million people.

    Giving them a profit of 70 million pounds or $150 million dollars , In one night and all under the noses of one of the biggest companies in existence.

    I have a little brother is 7 years old … playing on psn too, earns 70% of online gaming fifa 2011 … at this level 50 xp in der red redemption and play guitar hero on hard mode. spent the whole gta 4 and not knowing how to speak English .. hahahaha genius is one of the games … 5 years left to get him win all the games … I play very well, but he rules … without PSN, play with it and is a good challenge … hahahah lol
