There's no lack of really cool old people in Avatar: The Last Airbender, in fact, the biggest problem was choosing only one of them for this Grid. And yes, Uncle Iroh, the Dragon of the West, was a very, very close second. Eventually we settled on Bumi because we've talked extensively about Iroh before. And Bumi's older, anyway.
Bumi is the at least 110-year-old king of the city of Omashu. He was a childhood friend of Avatar Aang; the only one to live long enough to see him emerge from the ice.
There are two things you should know about Bumi. He is one of the two greatest Earthbenders alive. He is also insane. Or at least, crazy like a fox.
Committed to the Earthbending maxim of waiting for the opportune moment, he allowed his city to be captured by the Fire Nation, and bore imprisonment in an iron coffin for months. After the city was evacuated of Earth Nation citizens (due to unrelated events), and during an eclipse that robbed Fire Benders of their powers, he decided that escape had become a good idea, and released himself, revealing that he could earthbend using only his forehead. He turned an entire city of stone buildings and walls against the Fire Bender invaders, all by his lonesome.
And he did it in eight minutes.
