Before the town of Silent Hill was a wasteland of creepy monsters, thick fog and a truly nightmarish alternate version of the town that seeps into reality, it was a lakeside resort. Around the time it was a calm vacation spot, a group of the fanatical townsfolk created a series of cults that they referred to as "The Order," not to be confused with the Jean-Claude Van Damme/Charlton Heston flick. The Order dealt a drug made from a plant indigenous to the town to help attract tourists in order to make money to fund their order in which they'd sacrifice said tourists and other townsfolk in an attempt to resurrect their demonic god.
Due to some unfortunate cultish events where the Order attempted to birth their god from within a little girl named Alessa, the tourist town was tainted and transformed into the waking nightmare we all know and love today. But, if not for the Order, Pyramid Head would never have taken the gaming world by storm.
