When a global cult was reportedly founded sometime before 1800 BC and is still around to this day, it's a safe bet they have at least a modicum of power.
Lead by the seemingly immortal Kane (who is rumored to be the biblical Cain himself), the Brotherhood of Nod is suspected to be connected to various historical events, from housing the tomb of the biblical figure Abel, to Kane once having been Stalin's advisor. They have bases around the world, such as in Japan and Saudi Arabia, support political parties, such as Ross Perot's United We Stand America, and are affiliated with rebel groups such as the IRA. The Brotherhood manipulate the news, believe they represent the oppressed and are enemies of a United Nations backed military group. It's a good thing they have a little problem dealing with Ion Cannon strikes, at least.
