Willie Watt was the Carrie of Batman Beyond, except instead of...
Actually, Watt was just the Carrie of Batman Beyond. A nerdy boy, emotionally bullied by his father, who'd like to take the popular girl Blade to the school dance, but is foiled and beaten up by her jock paramour Nelson and his buddies. In retaliation, Watt used some of his father's construction equipment (a 20-foot-tall mentally controlled mech called GOLEM) to attack Nelson from afar, crushing his precious sports car, but accidentally electrocuting the robot. The feedback gave him a permanent telepathic connection with the GOLEM, and things seemed to be looking up, as Blade asked him to the dance a the pier. This turned out to be a ruse to provoke Nelson, who threw Watt off of the aforementioned pier, even though he was wearing a totally stylish construction-work-orange suit with a bow tie.
At this point his robot showed up and tried to kill everyone.
Watt spent his time in juvenile hall honing his new telekinetic powers, and getting some serious muscle.
