The Badger Lords of Brian Jaques' Redwall are not known for being good fathers. Male badgers do not get along well in proximity. In fact, they're best known for abandoning their families because of an instinctual calling to the great mountain fortress of Salamandastron, which has been ruled by berzerker badger warriors for time immemorial. Orlando the Axe is the exception. A single father whose daughter Auma was stolen by slavers, he joins the hero Matthias and his friends in a search to find all of their children before they can be pressed into service building an underground city for the tyrant Malkariss.
As a badger, Orlando overcame his warrior instincts to be a doting father, even learning to cook, a skill he would rather few known about, lest they think him soft. Let us think on how bad ass you've got to be to be known as "the Axe." He and Matthias become fast friends over the course of Mattimeo, their only disagreements came over which of them would get to kill the fox who had stolen their children.
