"My Uncle Ben once told me… that with great power must also come great responsibility."
Perhaps the quintessential father figure in all of comicdom, the spirit of Uncle Ben lives on in that holiest of maxims that Peter Parker, as Spider-Man, holds dear.
Ben Parker was a simple man. Born in Brooklyn, he lived in Forest Hills, Queens with his wife May and their adopted nephew Peter. Theirs was a happy life, if somewhat strained financially. Then, along came a spider that would change the life of his nephew and everyone around him, and it would be Ben who defined Peter's path with his death. Being the Amazing Spider-Man can have it's perks for sure, but when Ben died at the hands of a petty burglar, Peter flew into a rage, only to find out that it was the same burglar he could have stopped only hours before. In life and in death, Ben Parker taught Spider-Man more about being a hero than some heroes ever have the privilege of learning, and it has shown time and time again over the decades. So Rest in Peace, Uncle Ben. And Happy Father's Day.
