Lady Jessica Atreides was the concubine, but not the wife, of Duke Leto Atreides I, and the mother of Paul and Alia Atreides, all at least briefly rulers of the planet known as Dune. As a legacy, these two children are... well, something of a mixed bag. Yes, Paul became Muad'Dib, the Kwistaz Haderach, the galaxy's messiah. But he also, despite his best efforts, led an army of ferocious religious extremists in a culling war across known space. Paul and Jessica were close, right up until he ingested enough of the spice to awaken his prescient sight. Their relationship was significantly changed afterward, when Paul was only fifteen. Alia was born fully aware with the memory of generations of Reverend Mothers because Jessica didn't think to mention that she was pregnant before undergoing a religious ritual that involved the voluntary ingestion of poison. Alia was eventually taken over by the warring personalities inside her.
That said, it was Alia's other selves that motivated her tyrannical rule, not Jessica's teachings. And Paul did have the strength of morals, instilled in him by his parents good examples, to resist his fate, and to marry for love.
