Lyta Hall... listen. If you are planning on ever reading the Sandman books, like, ever, you SHOULD NOT READ THIS. STOP RIGHT NOW, AND CLICK TO THE NEXT MOM.
You have been warned.
Lyta Hall, a bit character dredged from DC Comics obscurity, becomes the terrifying avatar of the Furies and the final antagonist of Neil Gaiman's Sandman series. And it's all because of her missing son, Daniel. Lyta was pregnant with Daniel for years while trapped in a pocket of the Dreaming by the dreams Brute and Glob. When Morpheus himself arrived to drag his wayward servants back to his true realm, he destroyed the illusion that Lyta had been living with: her superhero husband was truly dead, and she and her baby were alone in the world. Furthermore, Dream warned her since he was a child gestated in the Dreaming, he held a claim over her son. And so when Daniel went missing a few years later, Lyta knew exactly who to blame. She found an ally in the Furies (also known as the Fates or the Kindly Ones), who were out for Morpheus for relatively unrelated reasons.
Lyta's son did eventually forgive her for the terrible (exciting terror, awe, or great fear; dreadful; awful) and awesome things she did out of love for him.
