Sharon "Athena" Agathon is the mother of the only human-cylon hybrid in history. She abandoned her own people for the love of Viper pilot Helo Agathon, and was rewarded with a long term of prison, ostracization, and attempted rape in the hands of human captors. She was lead to believe that her baby, Hera, died during childbirth, when in reality she was simply stolen away under the orders of President Roslin to be raised by a human family.
During events on New Caprica, Hera was recovered by the Cylons, who regarded her with religious awe. Eventually this was revealed to Sharon. In response, she forced her husband Helo to kill her, knowing that she would download inside a Cylon resurrection ship, alone, fully at the mercy of the race she had betrayed, but that it was her best chance at getting anywhere close to Hera. Helo, Hera, and Athena were eventually reunited, but they are probably some of the most wronged characters in Battlestar who deserve it the least.
