A power-up that was less an attribute than a ride in the pre-Yoshi days, Super Mario Bros. 3's Kuribo's Shoe was so named because you nicked it from Kuribo, a.k.a. the Goomba, who stomped around in the shoe before you stomped him. It conferred some neat powers on Mario, such as the ability to stomp piranha plants and walk on those pesky black spiky plants, and there hasn't quite been anything like it in the Mario canon since.
