Metal Mario, the metallic form that Mario can form in Super Mario 64 enabled him to walk and breathe underwater, withstand strong winds, and kill enemies just by walking into them. However, in the months before the 64's release none of that mattered. All that mattered was how freaking cool it looked. Seeing those early images of Metal Mario reflecting all of the images around him in real time were enough to make most gamers forget that the second dimension even existed. However, they also made us hope that Super Mario 64 included a level where the plumber was stalked by the T-1000. Come on, Takashi Tezuka! Give us that game!
