Selina Kyle was inspired by the Batman, not to devote her life to fighting crime in a costume, but to stealing anything that struck her fancy in a costume. She started out stealing mostly from Gotham City's mobsters, but would later become a global mistress of crime, occasionally commmiting Robin-Hood-esque conservationist thefts in efforts to help endangered large cats.
Lately she has mostly retired from a life of crime (except when she recently revenge-stole the entire fortune of one Thomas Elliot), and has returned to her childhood home: the Crime Alley neighboorhood of Gotham City, where she is a bona fide costumed vigilante. Despite honest effort, the femme fatale who once got away with a ring buried in the base of the Pietà itself still hasn't managed to steal Batman's heart. Or vice versa.
