Since Tim Burton mostly just remakes other people’s work nowadays, it was definitely appropriate to include him on our reboot list for the least Tim Burton-like remake in his repetoire. Indeed, the movie is barely purple, there's no Johnny Depp … but there is Helena Bonham Carter, who took the place of his previous muse/partner Lisa Marie. Hence, Planet of the Apes was Lisa Marie’s last movie with Tim Burton.
This seems to be one of those remakes that was done for the sheer heck of it, since the original is such a classic and was good enough for a bunch of sequels and TV shows. (No need to quote the famous quote. You know it already.) Talks of a remake started in 1988 and almost starred Former California Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was bounced around to Oliver Stone, Peter Jackson, Michael Bay, James Cameron, and Chris Columbus. So imagine any one of those versions, and Tim Burton makes exactly the same amount of sense that he did before as a choice to direct this movie.
