Zhaan, a murderer, anarchist, and fugitive, certainly had bevy of her own problems. However, her role in Farscape was generally as a healer (of wounds and disputes), mother, and mentor figure. A trained telepath, she could sense emotions and also remove the perception of pain, albeit by experiencing it herself. Her character unfortunately was not able to stick around for the entire series, as the actress who played her discovered that the extensive blue makeup required by the role was affecting her kidneys.
Oh, and Zhaan is actually a plant. So, that's cool.
