A banshee is beautiful robed women whose cries fortell death, although, unlike the dullahan, they themselves do not kill. Typically, banshees only wail in advance of the deaths of a great, powerful, or holy person, and deaths in the five great Gaelic families were supposedly fortold by fairy banshees. Banshees appearing in Irish myths were sometimes revealed to be the Morrígan, the Irish battle-goddess, and modern banshees are usually associated with murder and the undead.
