This British series began in 1975, and it showed us a vision of 1999 that luckily did not even come close to coming true. First of all, the series began with nuclear waste, left on the moon by Earthlings, exploding and sending the moon far, far away. This didn't happen, and it was an overestimation of global nuclear programs at the time. Then again, we do need somewhere to put that nuclear waste.

But also, the series followed a group of 311 cosmonauts who were trapped in a moon base. Well, Japan may have a moon base built in 2020, but back in 1999 nobody was even close to having that kind of technology on the moon. Eleven years later and we're still not there.

Space: 1999 is a future that actually would have been cool to see come true. We had moon bases, cool space-suits, and nuclear explosions. Though maybe we're better off being less technologically advanced and keeping the moon.
