The Apple vs. Google saga, while more recent when compared to its more storied and uglier step-cousins in the Microsoft and IBM feuds, is quickly becoming one of most fiercely fought and on the most fronts, be it from the lowly consumer standpoint all the way up to the boardroom. Which is remarkable considering how close to two companies were up until fairly recently, with CEO Eric Schmidt of Google enjoying a seat on Apple's board. It was love in Silicon Valley. However, the dream started to die when both became major players in the mobile phone market, with the iPhone doing battle with the growing Android platform in more public fashion. Eventually, with the rejection of Google's apps for the iPhone, the breakup came; Schmidt left Apple's board of directors, starting battle after battle in marketing, company acquisitions, and products - be it hardware or software -- that continues on to this day.
