Like many chosen ones, Dune protagonist Paul Atreides' chosenness was sealed before he was even born: His mother opted to have a boy instead of the girl that the Bene Gesserit's breeding program had asked her to do, which flipped all sorts of inadvertent switches. When Paul was exiled to Arrakis (a.k.a. Dune), he was recognized by the planet's inhabitants as the prophet who would bring them desert planet greenery.
Ironically, the Fremen had been socially engineered to have that prophetic tradition in the first place by a Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother, as part of a scheme to have safe havens on lesser planets in the case of emergencies; he ended up becoming one of their greatest enemies.
