It's no great secret that the field of engineering can be a bit of a boys' club, which makes Helen Greiner's success as a roboticist all the more remarkable. As the co-founder of iRobot, her best-known creation for the company is probably the automated Roomba vacuum cleaner. But some of her biggest achievements have actually been in the field of military robotics: among other things, she helped design PackBot, which has been used to defuse bombs in Afghanistan. Since stepping down from iRobot in late 2008, she has been heading up the secretive Droid Works, which has at least one government contract under its belt.
