Based on the 1962 novel, A Clockwork Orange was nominated in 1971. The version of the film released in '73 was rated X, although Kubrick would release an edited R-rated version two years later. One of the things the movie is best known for is making really interesting musical choices, particularly praised by Anthony Burgess, the author of the novel. This is also the reason why some people can no longer listen to Singing in the Rain without feeling uncomfortable.
