The Sharp sword is a popular weapon for many characters. Death of the Discworld has one that he uses specially for the deaths of royalty. The assassin Curare of Batman Beyond uses one with a monomolecular edge. Wonder Woman has one in Kingdom Come. The sharp sword's most notable power is the ability to slice through objects without otherwise disturbing them, allowing the two pieces to slowly slide apart, sometimes only after the sliceé has realized they have been sliced. It can accomplish this despite the fact that a blade with any kind of thickness at all would displace an object while cutting it.
The cutting power of these blades is nigh unlimited, and frankly absurd, but it is an absurdity that we will gladly put up with to experience Shimada Kambei slicing through an aircraft carrier in one stroke, our level 18 paladin's vorpal, keen scimitar going snicker-snack, and the Subtle Knife slicing holes between one world and the next.
