Though they have a lot of the characteristics of a disgusting alien race (insectoid, hivemind, etc) in practice they never really get that gross, primarily because the main characters don't encounter them that often. Also, when they finally manage to communicate, they’re actually pretty nice, articulate, and reasonably understanding for, you know.
