INCEPTION SPOILERS.
Go see it, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?
Okay, so we never actually get to see Mal in Inception. What we're actually seeing is Cobb's subconscious construction of her, and what a terrifying avatar of guilt it is. Dream Mal is a shell of her original, a creature manifested entirely from Cobb's remorse, and since all she knows is his deep, deep regret at having caused her death, she seethes with a terrible rage.
So maybe Cobb is actually the terrible ex here? Like most things about Inception, we'll have to get back to you on that. In the meantime, what is up with Christopher Nolan and dead wives?
