Alan "Dutch" Schaefer is the hero of the original Predator, and by hero I mean the only guy left alive at the end of the movie. Schaefer survives where the rest of his joint Delta Squad and CIA team fail, though a lot of quick thinking, improvisation, and a lucky break or two.
For example, he figures out that the Predator only comes after people with weapons, and stumbles on the realization that its heat sensitive vision can be fooled by covering yourself in mud. In the end, despite being captured by the Predator, the alien is so impressed by Dutch that he gives him the honor of a hand to hand duel, mano-a-youtja. Dutch manages to immobilize the Predator with a trap, whereupon it attempts to take him with it by activating a sort of self-destruct sequence, but Dutch even survives that.
What we're saying is that California should be perfectly safe.
