Ai Yazawa When marketing research firm Oricon took a poll in 2008 to determine the most popular manga artist in Japan, the winner wasn't a man in the spiky-hair-and-robots genre, but Ai Yazawa, a woman whose female-oriented works like Paradise Kiss and Nana make her one of the most influential figures in shojo manga. Nana was put on hiatus last year due to Yazawa's illness, and is still on hold; hopefully, she will be well again soon, and will resume delighting her devoted fans.
