Though Takehiko Inoue doesn't quite have the same celebrity status in the West as mangaka like Dragon Ball penman Akira Toriyama, he has an outsized footprint on manga as a medium. Currently notable for the popular Vagabond, which recounts the life of legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi, Inoue's biggest game-changer was Slam Dunk, a sports saga which is arguably responsible for the increased popularity of basketball in Japan since the 90s.
