This Exists: Red Velvet Fried Chicken

Thanks to science, or at least a bakery in San Francisco called American Cupcake, we can now satisfy an appetite we never knew we had before: An appetite for red velvet fried chicken. That’s right: Chicken soaked in red velvet cake batter, coated with crumbled cupcake, and fried. Red velvet is composed of buttermilk, butter, flour, and cocoa, and generally gets its hue from red food coloring or beetroot, according to Wikipedia.

There’s more: Do you see those mashed potatoes in the photo to the left? Those aren’t any ordinary mashed potatoes: Not only do they have garlic in them, but they’re infused with cream cheese, in homage to the cream cheese frosting traditionally served on red velvet cupcakes.

According to the Daily News, the cupcake-chicken hybrid costs $13, and has been well-received since it first went on sale last Friday: Within an hour of American Cupcake’s opening, its entire stock of red velvet fried chicken had sold out.
