J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts Spinoff as a Trilogy is a Treat for Potterheads

New York is going to have a real good time, like always.

There is a quite a stir in the Harry Potter fandom and with good reason. J.K. Rowling’s spin off book, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is being adapted into not one, but three movies. So time to gear up in our Hogwarts uniforms, dust off those wands and eagerly await for this trilogy to hit the big screen.

According to a profile of the Warner Bros. CEO, Kevin Tsujihara recently published in the New York Times, three “megamovies” are to be expected. The protagonist is Newt Scamander, a “magizoologist” and fictional author of the Fantastic Beasts textbook that appeared in the series. From what we can tell, the story is taking place in New York, 70 years prior to the Harry Potter books. However, they will not serve as prequels to the story, in fact, there isn’t any relation between the two except for the fact that it is the fantastical wizarding world that we love so much. Rowling is actually working on a separate staged prequel.

So far, we’ve seen most books being adapted into films following a similar route after the last Harry Potter book was broken up into two movies. With books like The Hobbit being split up into trilogies, it will be interesting to see how Fantastic Beasts translates. Needless to say, this is a win for everyone.
