Apple Sues Samsung for Allegedly Copying iPhone, iPad Design

There’s no denying that Apple has been extremely influential in consumer product design, but in a recent lawsuit with Samsung, Apple has accused its competitor of going a step further than merely soaking in vague influences in the air: Samsung, Apple alleges, has “slavishly” copied Apple’s iPhone and iPad. Apple’s suit singles out Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, Nexus S, and Epic 4G as “infringing products,” claiming that they copy Apple’s “technology, user interface and innovative style.” Above: The Samsung Galaxy S side-by-side with the iPhone 3GS.

Ars Technica speculates that Samsung’s TouchWiz interface may have particularly rankled Apple, “toeing the line in its mimicking of iOS.”

If this suit sounds familiar, it should: Apple is also involved in lawsuits with HTC and Nokia over allegedly infringing upon iPhone patents, although the US International Trade Commission recommended yesterday that HTC and Nokia not be found liable. Once again, Apple’s lawsuit could be seen as a maneuver in its cold war with Google for the smartphone (and now, tablet) market: the Samsung devices called out in the suit are all powered by the Android operating system.

Not to mention they’re set their sight on the Nexus S which is Google’s flagship device just manufactured and designed by Samsung :/

I’m inclined to say thats maybe making it a little TOO personal and frankly I distinctly remember discussions about how many Samsung components went into the iPhone…

I’m surprised they make no bones about the Galaxy S though…

That’s the only reason I bought my Galaxy S phone, because it resembled the iPhone I was replacing. :-P

This appears to be a rather petty lawsuit. Stomp it with superior tech, not bland design.

IBM should sue Apple for having the same keyboard shapes! And for using ‘Monitors’ (that’s what IBM had for their computers). And what about Apple computers using ‘Floppy Discs’ years ago! I’m sure Mr. Jobs didn’t ask the manufacturer’s of those disc if they could be used in Apple computers! One more reason to be thankful I don’t own any ‘Crapple’ products.

amen!!! having owned 3 iphones in the past and now a proud owner of a samsung galaxy…the major difference is simple…samsung has put out a FAR superior product.
apple has become a complete joke…all the proprietary crap associated with owning anything they put out angers me beyond belief. it’s not enough that they charge you through the roof for their products, they have to completely screw you on any periphery items you may need to boot.
    screw apple
