The Era of the Modern Superhero Movie, in Numbers

The following infographic is a surprisingly comprehensive look at movies with superheroes in them, including some movies that we would like forget entirely, or at the very least, forget that they were ever associated with superheroes.

Speaking of forgettable, here’s our advice on Green Hornet: if you can get someone else to pay, go see it.  Otherwise, feel free to wait for the Netflix.  It’s fun, but not that fun.

But we digress: Superheroes and numbers…

Was Green Hornet really not that good? Even with the amazing Michel Gondry directing?

I did take a chance on the Cape and was pleasantly surprised (though most of us agree that its not so much that the Cape is good, but that our expectations were SET SO LOW that when it didn’t hit bottom, we enjoyed it… ah, what do you expect? We’re a generation of cynics!). Point being: I’m taking the opinion of GH seriously here (Polo was the one who wrote a review on The Cape).

I feel the superhero movie bubble is going to pop soon. What I want, and will never seem to have, is a return to the 80s uber-violent action films. Even sequels to those style movies, like Die Hard 4, are such garbage. I’m talking like Stallone’s Cobra or Schwarzenegger’s Commando. Not good movies by any means at all… but I still miss it. Where is today’s Robocop??

Last word: I hate Hancock with a passion. I think the writing was atrocious… it misunderstood what people would have enjoyed and focused on areas that no one really cared about it. (much like the Star War prequels). Please tell me I’m not the only one who hates Hancock. Oddly enough, you will find a crazy following of Hancock lovers, who all for some reason or another have Indian/Middle Eastern names, on facebook. They tend to discuss Hancock in places that aren’t even about Hancock (like Batman discussion forums). Either its a wacky fanbase, or those are some amazing Trolls. IDK.
