Taco Bell Reportedly Testing All-Dorito Taco Shell

Is America ready for a fast food encased in off-the-shelf junk food? The answer is, horrifically, likely yes, as a rumor circulating around various food blogs, indicating that Taco Bell is in the midst of testing a new taco shell made entirely from Doritos. In these chilling images from Grub Grade, the construction-cone orange nacho-cheesier shell can be seen in all its seductive glory. Sightings of the taco have come in from Toledo, Ohio and Wichita, Kansas.

There is no official word as of yet about an nation wide invasion rollout of the cheesy chip shell, nor any information about what flavors will be available. Like the KFC DoubleDown, it’s sure to grab some media attention, though I am more concerned about the precedent it sets. I don’t think my mind could take the prospect of a Cheeto Burger or a Funyun Cobb Salad, but if the Dorito Taco is a success, who knows where it will stop?

Since there is no hope of stopping this gastronomic train wreck, I’m hoping that TacoBell will embrace it and other recent stories on their food with a slogan along the lines of: “The Dorito Taco: 36% meat, 100% Doirtos.”

Read on and be horrified as a man braves the Dorito Taco, on film.

Oh get over it and let them have their doritos. Much tastier than boring old normal taco shells. Little bit of cheese isn’t going to make a gastronomical train-wreck, no matter how badly the food-cops howl about it.

any word on an all-meat “meat”?

Why would this be setting a precedent? They have already stuck Flamin’ Hot Fritos in a burrito.

You have a *VERY* liberal definition of “cheese”. I love me some Doritos, but whatever’s on them has more in common with anthrax powder than a block of cheddar.

You’re the one keeping us free-eaters down.

Why so disgusted? This looks like it’ll taste amazing. The only major difference between that and a regular tortilla shell is the cheese powder. Then again, if you’re fretting about the ingredients TB uses, you probably shouldn’t be eating there anyway.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this took off and Taco Bell/Frito Lay introduced other flavors. Honestly, I’d love to see a “Cool Ranch” taco shell.

And Funyun Cobb Salad isn’t too far off. Burger King already uses those little fried onion rings/strings on one of their burgers (whose name escapes me at the moment).

I live in toledo and have indulged in the dorito taco and it makes me just as mad as everyone else………that this hasnt been made sooner! The only thing wrong with Taco Bell tacos before was that the shell was just a plain tortilla, now everything has awesomely delicious flavor. Your fingers are covered in cheese when your done eating it just like after you eat a few dorito chips. I currently attend college in the field of Exercise Science which is related towards exercise and diet, and i will tell you what if you are so health conscious that you cant indulge yourself if some junk food every once in awhile then your life sucks. From what I see, Taco Bell never claims to make mexican food they make freaking tacos. Correct me if I am wrong but the definition of a taco is a folded tortilla with various meats and ingredients inside. Sounds like a taco to me! to sum this up, I am a Dorito Locos Taco addict.

I came up with this idea back in 1995 and in 1996, I sent a letter to Taco Bell with my idea!
I was sent a letter back stating that they did not take unsolicited ideas and that was the end of my dream!
Now, over 15 years later,…I see my idea coming to life and I’ll never see a cent of compinsation.
My flavor of choice for the Doritos taco shell was actually the Cooler Ranch flavor. I tried Taco salad with several different flavors of Doritos and Cooler Ranch gave the best taste inhancement. Wish I could have pattened my idea somehow, but Doritos and Taco shells already existed, I was just merging the two. I’m broke and always will be I guess, but I do hope it’s a big hit anyway, because my family and close friends will always know that I had this idea years before it came to the restaurants!
