Samsung Totally Wasn’t Involved in This Bizarre Anti-Apple Flashmob [UPDATE]

Last weekend, a group of black-clad people carrying pre-printed signs poured out of a black bus outside the Sydney Apple store. They chanted “wake up!” and shook their signs which bore the same slogan. Most assumed it was some kind of guerrilla marketing campaign, with Samsung being a likely candidate. However, the Korean electronics maker has denied any involvement.

More Things Apple Could Do With Its 110 Billion Dollars and Olympic-Sized Swimming Pools

You may have heard that Apple has about $110 billion in cash reserves just sitting around. Troll Claims Every Single Touch-Based Apple Device Infringes On Its Patent

Patent trolls have something of a reputation for overreaching when it comes to the lawsuits they file. In just the past few months, for instance, trolls have claimed they have patents on microtransactions in gaming, buttons that type smiley faces, tweeting in public, and Wi-Fi in general. If none of that sounds outlandish enough for you, you might be interested in a new suit being filed against Apple by a company called FlatWorld Interactives. What are they staking claim to? Not much, just the touch technology behind every single Apple device that has ever had a touch pad.

Custom Fragrance Smells Like A Freshly Unboxed Apple Product

There’s a certain kind of smell that comes with newly unpackaged electronics. Personally, I’m partial to recently-opened-Xbox-game myself, but there’s definitely something to be said for freshly-unboxed-Apple-product. In fact, someone out there likes it so much that they commissioned a fragrance to emulate the scent and Air Aroma was happy to oblige. I guess it’s more efficient that enthusiastically rubbing yourself with empty iPad boxes every morning.

Mac Flashback Botnet Drops Under 30,000 Infected Computers, But More Trouble Could Be Coming [UPDATED]

Earlier this month, the Mac community first became aware of Flashback (or Flashfake), a nasty piece of malware that used a Java exploit to turn infected computers into part of an ever-growing botnet. When its presence was announced, it was estimated to have infected over 600,000 computers. Now, thanks to quick action by Apple and security firms, the number of infected computers is estimated to be under 30,000. However, this probably marks the death of Mac’s fictional invulnerability to malware and other digital nasties.

Man Sues Apple For Allowing Freemium Apps To Market To Children, Apple’s Claims For Dismissal Denied

Anyone who’s spent more than 5 minutes looking around any app store anywhere knows that just because an app is free doesn’t mean that it won’t eventually give you the opportunity to shell out some cashr. Apps that are free on their face, but offer users additional features or cybergoods at a price — commonly known as “freemium” apps — are far from rare, and if you have a kid who uses your iDevice, they can be far from free as well. One dad, upon learning that his daughter dropped hundreds of dollars on in-app Gems and Zombie Toxi, filed suit against Apple allowing these sort of games to market to kids. Now, Apple’s claims for dismissal have been denied, and the suit is due to move forward.

U.S. Files Antitrust Suit Against Apple Regarding eBook Prices

A month ago, Apple and five other publishers were warned that the U.S. Department of Justice was seeking a case for collusion and price fixing regarding eBook prices. Mac Botnet Has Infected Over Half a Million Computers

For some, one of the reasons to get a Macintosh computer was that there were few nasty viruses or other malicious junk floating around that could affect your machine. However, this kind of attitude can only lead to trouble and now the Russian security company Doctor Web says that one particular trojan called Backdoor.Flashback.39 has infected over 550,000 Apple computers.
