New Dark Knight Rises Trailer Hits Theaters

Last week, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows opened in theaters. It’s a good flick and all, but almost as exciting is the fact that the new trailer for the final installment of the Christopher Nolan’s Batman films The Dark Knight Rises is running in front of the Robert Downy Jr. detective flick. Guys, it looks pretty amazing.

See it, in all its glory, after the break.

12 Things You’ll See Before You Die [Infographic]

There’s always buzz about when the next PlayStation or Xbox is going to come out, or who’s going to win the next presidential election, but have you ever thought about how many more PlayStations, Xboxes or presidential elections you’re going to see before you bite the dust? Well, whether or not you have, this original Geekosystem infographic will tell you. By doing a little research, a couple of maths and ignoring a massive number of potential variables like premature death, bankruptcy, game-changing inventions, and the end of the world, I came up with 12 things that you will see before you die. Get ready to get pumped for the PlayStation 11.

6 of the Coolest Multi-Platform Franchises Since 2000

The new millennium has been mighty kind in terms of fruitful franchises. Some older, niche works have received revitalizations while other equally niche works have risen up to help fill out the greater cornucopia that is, shall we say, geekdom. But which of these newcomers really has the strength to stand up over time like the old standbys? That’s the real question here.

So, here’s the criterion: To be considered, the franchise must have some kind of multimedia, multi-platform presence. Basically, each franchise must have three different forms of media involved, be it comics, manga, film, video games, anime series, or something similar to those listed. Call it the equivalent of the triple threat; some franchises have the ability and some do not.

All of these have that quality in spades.

The Many Faces of Gary Oldman

Today is the birthday of celebrated actor Gary Oldman, whom you have almost certainly seen. Perhaps you didn’t realize that he portrays both persecuted wizard Sirius Black in the Harry Potter films, and as the long-suffering but upstanding Commissioner Jim Gordon in the most recent Batman films. And perhaps you didn’t know that actor Gary Oldman, 53, has also portrayed a Florida mental patient, a cutthroat scif weapons tycoon, a vampire, and Sid Vicious but it’s all true.

So,  here’s to Gary Oldman! A hundred faces, a hundred voices, but all the same incredibly versatile actor.

Romantic Batman Hotel Suite in Hourly Rate Erotic Hotel

Taiwanese hotel Eden in Kaohsiung City features the above Batman-themed suite, but the thing is, Eden is an erotic hotel with an hourly rate, which makes the Batman suite an erotic Batman suite that is paid for at an hourly rate. Read that again: Erotic Batman. Not only does the room feature sexy Batman decor, but there’s a Batmobile in which erotic things may happen. Even funnier than erotic Batman and hourly rates, the hotel gives away lubrication, lingerie and “other perks” around holiday time. Last year, rates for the romantic Batcave were around $50 for three hours. Head on past the break to check out some more pictures of the room.

Is It Possible to Become a Real-Life Batman Using Modern Technology?

Batman is a most alluring superhero for geeks because he doesn’t have an adamantium skeleton or the ability to fly: He’s a regular old extremely strong, extremely intelligent billionaire equipped with amazing technology, just like you and me. So whereas most forms of superherodom are out of human reach, in theory, it’s possible for some people living today to become Batman using the right gadgets.

Are you lonely? Looking for a special someone? Are you also ok with tights-wearing crime fighters or amoral megalomaniacs bent on world domination and/or life of crime?

Allow Us To Explain: Bane

I’ve been looking forward to this article ever since it was announced that Bane would be appearing in The Dark Knight Rises, and not just because the title rhymes.  I’ve been looking forward to it because Bane is awesome, and not many people outside of comics fans have much of an idea of who he is.  This is because his appearances in media outside of comics and cartoons have been pretty much limited to two: he was an almost unnoticeable tertiary badguy in that movie-that-shall-not-be-named Batman & Robin, and he was the first boss fight in Batman: Arkham Asylum.

But there’s much more to Bane than just “the Mexican wrestler guy who’s on steroids,” so allow me to explain why he makes my short list of awesome Batman villains that most people don’t even know exist.

(Which also includes Mr. Zsasz.  Yes, I freaking loved Batman: Arkham Asylum.)

The Joker Goes Too Far

Poisoning talk show audiences [spoilers at link] and blowing up hospitals is bad enough, but discouraging promising students? That’s just evil.

Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy are Catwoman and Bane

This is not a rumor.  It’s in the freaking New York Times. The Dark Knight Rises will star, among others, Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, an Tom Hardy as Bane.

At least we now know, at long last, that Tom Hardy’s beard has nothing to do with his role in TDKR.
