A new study from the University of South Wales confirms what plenty of us have known for years -- everything is better with a beard. At least, ladies seem to think so, as the study showed that women see bearded men as more attractive partners in both the short and long term. 

If you follow Geekosystem, you'll know we have an alternate identity: Beardosystem. We tend to cover all things beard from time to time, so we couldn't pass up the chance to let you in on Kickstarter project Crumb Catcher, which is an iOS game where the object is to make your beard disgusting.

This one is for all you men out there. Have you ever wanted to know more about beards? Of course you have; beards are awesome. While I might not be the best person to be asking, having facial hair better fit for a 15-year-old, I can point you to a genuinely fascinating beardographic from Online PhD that delves into the science, history, and behavioral cause and effect of beard-acquisition and beard-ownership. The downside is that, as you might expect, beards can be kind of a turn-off for the ladies. The upside? They are beards. Beards are awesome.

Their claim: For a dollar a month, they'll send you a high-quality, no frills razor blades. Sounds like a deal, and the only thing the Internet loves more than a good deal is a clever commercial. For most of my adult life, I believed that the best possible driver's license photo would be one that was perfectly flattering. One that conveyed my charm, my wit, my winning smile, and rendered me identifiable within the eyes of the law. But I was wrong, and Reddit user adambard has showed me the way with his half-hair half-beard license photo. Interestingly, the look is so visually confusing that it leaves me with no discernable impression of his face. Could it be that adambard has also discovered the perfect facial camouflage? Vikings and dwarves are famed throughout the world for their tenacity, but also for their amazing, luxuriant beards. Sadly, most of us are either incapable of growing that much facial hair or bow to the societal pressure to remain clean-shaven. Thankfully, Dortha Gibbs has a hand-crocheted solution. Her yarn helmets are not only fashionable, but also sport enormous beards and other hair accents.

Kerry Thomas, otherwise known as reddit user BovingdonBug, created a fun map that shows the many paths a man can take from being bearded to the clean-shaven. The little icons are humorously cabin themed, as they sit in the beard forest, with the starting bearded head dubbed "the untamed wilds," a sentiment anyone who can grow a full beard in less than a week has experienced. Tom Offer-Westort wanted to shave his beard, but his friend Peter Simon suggested they do it in style. So, they filmed it and cut it together via a bit of stop-motion animation and rolled it out in reverse. Of course, we don't actually see Abby Simon cutting Tom's hair in between snaps, which is because Tom has magic beard-altering fingers. Because 2,000 toothpicks in his beard wasn't enough, YouTube user beardpick attempts to shatter that record by shoving 3,000 toothpicks into his manly mane, which took him 16 months to grow. He doesn't get to 3,000, stopping at 2,747 toothpicks, though he does amusingly shake the toothpicks out into the garbage when he's done having 2,747 toothpicks all over the bottom portion of his face. The real recognition should go to his wife, however, as at the end of the video, she is credited for filming, meaning she allowed beardpick to get away with a 16-month-long beard.

As part of a bet, Cory Fauver grew out his beard for one year and six weeks, and documented the whole process by taking (roughly) one picture of himself per day and compiling it all into the short film shown above, entitled "Year of the Beard." And yes, we've decided to shift Geekosystem's focus to beard coverage. Head past the break to check out a larger version of the video with higher defs.

Animator Adam Fisher made this stop motion video, entitled "Timber," wherein he shaves his human mane (and probably loses all of his superpowers) with his fingers in order to teach us all about conservation, and left us with this message: "I used MY natural resource to make a film about OUR natural resources." If you aren't one to be freaked out by stop motion animation or grossed out by humongous hairy face decorations, then the video is actually pretty neat.

Some headlines just insist on being clicked. Kentucky NBC affiliate KSDK’s “Man says former friends cut off his beard and forced him to eat it” is just one of those headlines.
