Boardwalk Empire is, as far as I'm concerned, the best show currently on television. Sesame Street, while it isn't the best show currently on television, sure is an old favorite, and is quite good at parodying shows with more mature themes. If you've never wondered why that is, it's because adults often watch the show with their kids, and adults need something to do while puppets are teaching their children the value of sharing. Because of that, we now have Birdwalk Empire. Give it a watch.

We knew last night's season 2 finale of Boardwalk Empire was going to be good -- the show is consistently good, usually getting better with each episode, so a good finale was all we could expect. However, with all those expectations, I and -- if trending topics on Twitter after the finale last night were any indication -- the bulk of everyone else didn't see the ending coming. Not so much a twist, but more an "I can't believe they actually did that," last night's finale cemented Boardwalk Empire as, as far as I'm concerned, the best show currently on television. Sorry, people who watch AMC shows. Yes, there are spoilers ahead.

Lately, television is safe. It rarely explores any new, exciting, taboo, or terrifying subjects. Channels like AMC have some "edgy" shows, but really, dealing drugs or putting bullets into inhuman monsters is considered safe; we hear about drugs every single day in the news, and murder is fine so long as it's committed against monsters. Something needs to kick television in the pants. Sunday's episode of Boardwalk Empire laced up some steel-toed boots and took a running start.
