Craig Ferguson

Lost “Doctor Who” Open from Craig Ferguson

Thanks to the YouTube, a lost moment of brilliance has been recaptured from oblivion–the lost “Doctor Who” dance number pulled from Craig Ferguson’s Late Late Show two weeks ago.

Ferguson had planned to open the show with a huge puppet-laden, go-go booted dancer-filled musical number set to the famous Doctor Who music, complete with lyrics explaining the show to confused Americans–only to have the skit cut by producers.

Craig Ferguson and his Robot Skeleton: United at Last

On last night’s Late Late Show, Craig Ferguson fans finally got the payoff they’ve long been waiting for in the form of Geoff Peterson, the robot sidekick that Mythbuster Grant Imahara agreed to build Ferguson if he could amass more than 100,000 Twitter followers. (It happened very, very quickly.)

Geoff Peterson’s robotic powers include laughing at any joke Ferguson tells at the push of a button, shooting off catchphrases, and, well, being a robot skeleton.

As jocular a pursuit as robot skeleton-building might seem, Imahara took the challenge of building Geoff Peterson quite seriously:

Steven Wright on Craig Ferguson: Twitter, Llamas, David Caruso

Steven Wright is the kind of cult comedian whose cult is particularly strong among the geeky crowd: Like Norm Macdonald or Mitch Hedberg (RIP), Wright’s routine is all about logic, structure, and (extremely deadpan) delivery rather than gross-out jokes or ‘attitude.’

He was in fine form on last night’s Late Late Show with his friend Craig Ferguson, in whom he seemed to bring out the best: They riffed on Ferguson’s robot-winning Twitter obsession (Wright: “Do you have to know everyone that you’re twittering with?” Ferguson: “No. It’s like sex in the 1970s.”), llamas (Wright: “I used to know two llamas in the early ’70s. They’re very arrogant. They think they’re cool because they don’t talk”), and internet favorite David Caruso.

It’s telling that when Wright simply said of Caruso, “he’s a good actor,” he got a big round of shocked laughter. They should send Wright to (puts sunglasses on) the funny farm.

Mythbuster Grant Imahara will Build Craig Ferguson a “Robot Sidekick,” for 100,000 Twitter Followers [Update]

Late night host Craig Ferguson is a huge Mythbusters geek: since he joined Twitter last month, a good number of his tweets have been about how terrific Mythbusters is and how he maybe watches too much of the show. Now, Mythbuster Grant Imahara has thrown down the gauntlet: if he gets 100,000 Twitter followers, he will build Craig Ferguson a robot sidekick.

Craig Ferguson Goes Audience-Free For A Night, Wins Wide Acclaim

Craig Ferguson of CBS’ Late Late Show isn’t shy about experimenting with the late-night format, with his pre-monologue monologues (which often include puppets), and lack of a band. The show he did last night, however, was a radical departure even for him. Inspired by Tom Snyder, the first Late Late Show host, Ferguson did a show with no audience, instead talking to friend/Hugh Laurie co-conspirator Stephen Fry for the full hour. Ferguson said having such an interesting guest was “protection” for him (another possible description: “smart”), but even so, Ferguson performed as well as could be expected working in a format with which he was unfamiliar, and further staked his place as one of television’s most versatile talents.
