Geekosystem Podcast Episode 8: “Happy Birthday, Coworker!”
It's Tuesday, which means it's time for another episode of The Geekosystem Podcast. This week we recorded during an office birthday party we didn't know was happening, talked about Batman and Doctor Who again, and Glen makes a sleepy but impassioned plea for you to watch the World Chess Championship.Read on...
Faster-Than-Light Neutrino Being Chalked Up to a Loose Cable
Remember that faster-than-light neutrino that shook up the scientific community with the possibility, though slight, that the laws of physics as we know them many not apply the way we thought they did? Well, they probably do. ScienceInsider is now reporting that the FTL neutrino wasn't the result of some crazy breach of physics as we know it. No, it's much more likely that it was the result of a loose cable.Read on...
After Follow-Up Tests, Neutrinos Still Seem To Outpace Light
Doubtless you remember all the hubbub back in September when researchers at CERN observed neutrinos moving at faster than the speed of light. Of course, there were immediate calls for further testing, many scientists whole-heartedly expecting the next round of experiments to lay bare an error that could explain away the results. Nope. Retests are still showing neutrinos that are outpacing beams of light, even in follow-up tests specifically designed to eliminate some of the perceived inaccuracies of the first test.Read on...
