Princess The Football-Predicting Camel Has Passed Away, We Might As Well Cancel The Super Bowl

Sports fans everywhere might not realize that for the past twenty years, the success of their favorite football teams was dependent on the will and predictions of an unlikely source: a 2,000 pound camel named Princess.

Man Plays Soccer for 90 Minutes Without Realizing There’s a Bullet Lodged in His Skull

A Bosnian man played a full soccer match with a 9mm bullet in his head this past weekend, and only discovered it when complaining about a headache. While some soccer players are masters of making dramatic flops, he managed to make getting shot in the head one of the least dramatic injuries on record. And he only let up one goal, too.

College Football Coach Uses Drone To Get Overhead View of Players, Terrify Other Team

Adding robots to things is a pretty good way to get my attention. Although I usually don't have any interest in college football, this week a coach at the University of Tennessee wanted an overhead view of his team, so he rented a drone to get it done. It's difficult to tell from the Vine coach Butch Jones posted on Twitter, but I think we've seen this particular drone before.

Detroit Lions Sign YouTube Sensation as Their New Kicker

We don't typically pay much attention to sports news here at Geekosystem. Our friends at SportsGrid do a great job of covering that stuff, but this is a prime example of worlds colliding. The Detroit Lions just signed YouTube sensation Havard "Kickalicious" Rugland as their new kicker. They'll really clean up this season if the NFL changes its rules to include casually kicking a football with the back of your foot into an open garbage can.

We Love Playing Games, But Why Do Humans Play At All?

Here at Geekosystem we love games. Video games, board games, card games, really any way we can assert our dominance over each other here at headquarters. We haven't thought much about what makes a game, but thankfully Vsauce has. Their new video looks at what separates games from other forms of entertainment and challenges, and they even explain why soccer is football and football is soccer.

Just Add Water: Seattle Seahawks Really Do Play Better at Home in Rain and Snow

Hailing from Washington, I can happily confirm that yes, as you may have heard, it rains quite a bit there. Somehow, though, we mostly get by just fine. Now, a University of Washington meteorologist has run the numbers to find that our NFL team has not only found ways to live with the rainy, wet conditions that are par for the course in the Northwest -- they actually thrive in them. The playoff bound Seattle Seahawks are more likely to win home games in rain or snow, and not by just a little.

The Lingerie Football League Video Game Isn’t Just Degrading to Women

Well folks, I'm at a loss for words. I didn't think that it could get any worse than the LFL, the Lingerie Football League. I was proven wrong this morning when WWE developer, Yuke's announced a video game using the LFL license. We need to recognize this upcoming game for what it is: Degrading to female athletes and degrading to gamers.

Marching Band Creates “Animated” Football Player Stick Figure

The University of Hawaii's Rainbow Warrior Marching Band performs this neat routine where they form a football player stick figure, who then runs toward and kicks a football down the field. It's so well done, I expected the marching band to make the football player stick figure fall down as the ball soared across the field.

First Cataclysm TV Spot Runs Today… During the Cowboys/Vikings Game?

Just as a heads up, a TV spot for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will run today some time during the Dallas Cowboys vs. Minnesota Vikings NFL game. A football game with World of Warcraft? you might ask. Or: World of Warcraft with a football game? These are both valid angles of inquiry. Allow us to explain:

Football Player Gets His Hair Insured for $1 Million

Weird celebrity insurance policies, especially on notorious body parts, are the stuff of legend. Just observe this list – or this one, for that matter – for some of the craziest (and in some cases, quite possibly fakest) insurance policies ever taken out. Well, we have a new one to add to that list. Head & Shoulders, manufacturer of perhaps the best-known anti-dandruff shampoo out there (and, as seen here and here, prominently endorsed by Steelers star Troy Polamalu) decided to protect its investment in Polamalu by making another one – a $1 million insurance policy on his luxurious mane. >>>Read more at SportsGrid.
