Green Lantern

If Green Lantern Was Really About Deadpool

We realize that not everyone coming to this site is a comic book person, so here’s the tl;dr on Deadpool:

  • He is the Marvel universe’s amoral, unbalanced, near-indestructible, wise cracking, fourth-wall-breaking, weirdo mercenary.
  • A Deadpool-in-name-only appeared in Wolverine: Origins, played by Ryan Renolds.
  • Ryan Renolds is starring in Green Lantern.
  • The Green Lantern trailer wasn’t really that awesome.  This trailer is.

Allow Us to Explain: Why the Movie Green Lantern Is White

Let’s face it: we’re probably delivering a spiritual-minded homily to the large vocal ensemble here, but it has been brought to our attention that there may be a lot of people out there who saw the trailer for Green Lantern and are upset and confused about the fact that he’s being portrayed by a white actor.  Maybe you’re one of them. Maybe you’re not, but you know someone who is. This post is for you.

Green Lantern: The First Official Trailer

The first official trailer has dropped for the Green Lantern movie, due in theaters on June 17th, 2011. IMO, it looks a little “eh” at present, especially with respect to the CGI’d up Green Lantern suit. (Jump to the 2:05 mark, for example.) That said, I’ll confess that I’m not a Green Lantern superfan and that the sight of, say, Peter Sarsgaard‘s admittedly awesome-looking Hector Hammond probably throws some people into paroxysms of delight; plus, they’ve still got months to polish ‘er up. Star Ryan Reynolds won points from us for his on-the-spot recitation of the Green Lantern oath at Comic-Con (reprised here), and this trailer gives us hope that good things are yet in store here.

Leaked Pics of Seven Alien Green Lanterns

The Green Lantern, as you may know, isn’t particularly unique in the cosmos. He’s a member of an elite Corps of peacekeepers whose collective jurisdiction covers the entire universe, and the majority of them are, of course, not human. The Lantern Corps has been an organization used by many comic writers to bring to bear their most creative science fiction ideas, compiling an incredibly diverse cast of characters for Green Lantern stories.

Comic Book Movie has gotten their hands on some exciting pictures of CGI mock ups of seven alien Green Lanterns who will hopefully appear in next summer’s Green Lantern, including Rot Lop Fan, Galius Zed, and Bzzd.

But no Mogo, Katma Tui, or Kilowog. Which makes us sad.

Green Lantern Production Done; Writer Already Signed for Sequel

DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns announced on Twitter this past Friday that production has wrapped on Martin Campbell’s (Casino Royale) superhero film Green Lantern. Shooting began in February 2010 in New Orleans, and lasted 100 days. In other news, the film’s co-scribe Michael Goldenberg (Contact, Harry Potter) has been hired as screenwriter for Green Lantern 2. Earlier in June, Greg Berlanti, Michael Green, and Marc Guggenheim were reported to be working on a treatment for the inevitable sequel, as well as DC’s next likely franchise, The Flash. Too bad, Ryan Reynolds would’ve been perfect. (/Film, Bleeding Cool)

If you don’t fall in love with Ryan Reynolds a little bit after watching this video, you have a heart of brass: After resisting the perpetual pesterings of the press to recite the Green Lantern Corps oath for who knows how long, a youngster at Comic-Con asked him to do so, and he happily obliged, causing the crowd in attendance to burst into applause.
